Flavio A. Soares Flavio Soares has spent more than two decades as a trusted advisor to small and midsized Catalan, Brazilian and Spanish companies and entrepreneurs on matters related to intellectual property, trademark registration, unfair competition, civil litigation, company formation and compliance, and international investment structures. He has developed a broad contact base throughout the intellectual property and tech start-up sectors since establishing the Barcelona branch of Ávila Pereira & Torres in 1993. Flavio began practicing law in Rio de Janeiro in 1986 under the mentorship of his Commercial Law professor Kléber Pereira Ávila in the law firm of Ávila Pereira & Torres. The firm provided advice regarding trademark and intellectual property law to a broad array of international clients and was the springboard for the development of Flavio’s legal practice. Upon relocating to Barcelona, Flavio earned a master’s degree in International Law from the University of Barcelona in 1993 specializing in software licensing in the European Union while working for the Spanish law firm of Ribas & Rodríguez and qualifying to practice as a Spanish lawyer. In 1993, Flavio established the Barcelona office of Ávila Pereira & Torres under the name of Soares & Ávila, focusing on intellectual property and trademark law. The practice has expanded over the years to incorporate Flavio’s expertise in new technologies and advising innovators throughout the business lifecycle, including licensing, technology transfer, protection of know-how, dispute resolution (including litigation), and unfair competition. As a result of his long term relationships with his clients, the globalization of technology companies, and his qualifications as a Brazilian lawyer, Flavio’s practice has expanded to advising European companies on their expansion to Brazil and other countries where he manages a network of affiliated offices such as the United States, Colombia, and Peru.
